Shores & Islands Ohio awards Destination Development grant to City of Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON, OHIO, November 14, 2022

City of Port Clinton is proud to announce we have been awarded a Destination Development Grant, presented recently by the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau, part of Shores & Islands Ohio, the destination marketing organization for Erie and Ottawa counties.

More than $98,000 in grants were awarded to 19 different Ottawa County-based recipients under this new program, a major component of Shores & Islands’ strategic plan that focuses on supporting efforts to enhance the destination for visitors and residents alike.

This matching grant program is for the purpose of assisting Ottawa County businesses, organizations, and communities in developing activities or projects that will attract and engage visitors, serve and educate regional tourism partners, and generate economic growth for their communities and the region through travel and tourism development.

City of Port Clinton received a grant for the purpose of to enhance the overall experience to M.O.M. 2.3. To accomplish this objective we’ve identified five key elements which will enhance the visitor experience.  These include: additional table umbrellas, multiple corn hole boards, replacing the string lights displayed overhead, adding additional portable seating and an LED sign board to display upcoming activities. All will be purchased and placed in May for the 2023 season.

Shores & Islands Ohio received applications for a variety of projects from across the county including expansions, restoration, signage and infrastructure improvements, start-ups of new tourism-enhancing businesses, marketing, and more. The grants support tourism industry and community collaborations that maximize the economic return on public and private investments, spur increased visitation and enhance the quality of life for residents.
