Topic: Olen Martin Stepping Down as Port Clinton’s Safety-Service Director

On Sunday, December 15th, 2019 the Mayor of Port Clinton accepted a letter of resignation from City Safety-Service Director Olen Martin. During Mr. Martin’s nearly two years as SSD for the City of Port Clinton, he accomplished a great deal. Amongst other accomplishments credited to Mr. Martin, he helped reorganize the Service Department, began implementation of a vehicle fleet management strategy, spear-headed a collaborative effort with the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council to establish a Cultural Arts Center and helped fine tune a much needed infrastructure plan set to be activated throughout the community in 2020.

In his letter of resignation Mr. Martin notes a once-in-lifetime opportunity as the reason for his departure. “… prior to joining the City, much of my professional focus of my career since 9 /11, has primarily been in homeland security and counterterrorism related missions. I have been offered and humbly accepted a position that will allow me to utilize that skill set as part of our Country’s anti-terrorism mission on an international level.”

“It’s a tremendous loss for the City but a wonderful gain for our Country,” said Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider. “His new position is right in his professional wheelhouse. It places him near the pinnacle of his law enforcement / anti-terrorism career. I would have been more disappointed had I learned he turned this opportunity down.”

Mayor Snider is organizing a search team comprised mainly of City Department Supervisors to seek out and identify the next SSD for the City of Port Clinton.

Mr. Martin’s last day as SSD for the City of Port Clinton will be January 3rd, 2020.
